FULL TIME: A terrific victory for Everton to kick off 2013, responding from behind yet again to record their first back-to-back away wins for two years. They scored two superb goals and, although they survived a few scares, Newcastle ran out of ideas and inspiration as the second half went on. The Magpies are still casting nervous glances over their shoulder, and the departure of Demba Ba will do nothing to ease their concerns.
90+5 mins: Baines has a chance to seal it but as he bears down on Krul from a tight angle, he can't decide whether to square it to Oviedo or shoot and the keeper smothers it.
90+4 mins: Bigirimana gives it away to Fellaini and Everton will seek to keep the ball calmly in the opposition's half. Newcastle not threatening an equaliser at all.
90+2 mins: Newcastle lump it into a heavily-populated box but Anita's knockdown is cleared.
90 mins: After all the fuss over those injuries to Anichebe and Neville, we will have six minutes of added time.
88 mins: Time-wasting substitution for Everton as Bryan Oviedo comes on for Jelavic. He's had a very good game.
87 mins: Last throw of the dice from alan Pardew - Nile Ranger is thrown on for Perch.
84 mins: Really good chance for Santon - Newcastle's first for some time - who glides into the box down the left, but his effort is repelled by Howard. From the corner, Marveaux's low bullet is also kept out, this time by Osman on the line!
83 mins: Everton are down to nine men temporarily as Anichebe goes off for a bit of a rub from the physio and a bleeding Neville has to change shirts due to blood stains.
81 mins: The game is getting very fractious. Newcastle fans are lambasting Martin Atkinson for what they see as a succession of decisions going against them. Play is stopped at the moment as Neville is treated for a head injury. Anichebe is looking very groggy too after an off-the-ball incident.
79 mins: Tiote is replaced by Sammy Ameobi. Pienaar is booked for kicking the ball away at a Newcastle free kick.
77 mins: ... Baines clears the wall but curls it about five feet wide of Krul's post.
76 mins: Marveaux gifts the ball to Fellaini who has acres to run into. Using Jelavic's run across him as a decoy, he forages towards the edge of the box and hits the deck very willingly when the tackles inevitably comes in from Tiote. Martin Atkinson falls for it. It's right on the 18-yard line...
74 mins: Everton are looking pretty assured, keeping the ball pretty effectively and keeping the hosts at bay fairly comfortably. It might take something spectacular for the Magpies to get something out of this now.
71 mins: Almost an awkward moment for Krul, who has to backpedal to claw the ball over the bar as it skews off Williamson's boot and towards the top corner of the defender's own goal. As Newcastle prepare to defend the corner, once again there's loads of pushing, shoving and generally very avoidable unpleasantness. The corner is delayed as Anichebe and Tiote are lectured.
69 mins: So close to an equaliser! The Toon break down the right, making use of space created by Baines having taken a corner upfield. The floated cross finds Cisse, whose first header strikes the chest of Heitinga. It rebounds back to him, he sticks out a leg whilst on the floor but smacks his follow-up straight at Howard!
67 mins: Jagielka is absolutely clattered by a flying tackle from Tiote. The Newcastle midfielder can have no argument after being flashed a yellow card.
66 mins: That's Obertan's last contribution as he is replaced by Gael Bigirimana.
65 mins: A little chance for Obertan, who creates just enough space for himself to crack a shot away. The angle is against him, but his shot wuold have sneaked (snuck?) inside the near post but for a solid stop by Howard.
62 mins: Krul fails to prevent a corner after Anichebe's blast from distance deflects off a defender. Baines delivers, but it's headed away at the near post by Anita. The atmosphere has been killed stone dead by that second Everton goal.
59 mins: WHAT AN IMPACT BY ANICHEBE! The substitute nets his fourth of the season a minute after coming on. He owes a big debt to Jelavic for some twinkle-toed magic down the left to dash past Coloccini. He then slides a quick square ball into the six yard box for Anichebe to ram low through Krul and in. Everton have turned the game around.
58 mins: First change of the game sees David Moyes replace Naismith for Victor Anichebe.
57 mins: Glorious chance for Ameobi! Marveaux chips a simple straight ball into the area and Everton's defence is AWOL. Ameobi's first touch is superb to control the ball, he then only has Howard to beat, slides it past him but just wide of the post!
54 mins: Loads of argy bargy as Everton take a corner. Tiote pulls Naismith to the ground as the ball comes in, but there is so much shoving and nonsense going on that Martin Atkinson doesn't know where to look.
53 mins: Williamson, just back from a suspension, is booked for bringing down Jelavic from behind as the former Rangers man was running at goal.
51 mins: Fairly decent start to the half by Newcastle, although a corner comes to nothing due to Cisse's hassling of Howard inside the six yard box. Replays suggest it was actually the goalkeeper doing the shoving.
49 mins: Obertan tries to beat Jagielka down the left wing but tries the 'kick the ball miles ahead and run after it' technique and the England defender deals with that nonsense comfortably.
47 mins: Heitinga is booked for a slightly cynical tug on Ameobi, who had nipped past him. "Newcastle going down?" asks Joan in Hampshire. No, I don't think so. There are more than three teams who are significantly more rubbish than them.
46 mins: A couple of half-time notes: the free kick award which leg to Baines' goal was an absolute joke. Fellaini simply fell over. Baines' strike wasn't into the top corner, as it appeared from the first camera angle, but the power and swerve on it were just too much for Krul. Indeed, would have been too much for any keeper. What a hit it was. Anyway, we're under way in the second half.
HALF TIME: A very watchable first half. Neither of these sides deal in clean sheets and their respective defensive frailties have continued here tonight. Everton deserve their equaliser and Leighton Baines' power from dead balls really is wondrous. That was as cleanly struck free kick as you'll see anywhere. Enjoyable so far. Join me for the second half.
45 mins: Good build-up again from Everton but Fellaini's dinked ball into the box sees Naismith whistled for an apparent foul as he jostles for a header.
43 mins: STAGGERING STRIKE BY BAINES! Everton are level in the most thrilling manner. Fellaini wins a very fortunate free kick about 35 yards from Newcastle's goal. Krul might be expecting a curler from Baines, but instead the full-back opts for sheer, undiluted power, smacking an absolute bullet into the top corner, arcing gloriously away from the 'keeper's dive. Wow.
40 mins: Cisse is booked for a slightly mistimed, but hardly malicious, tackle. A soft one.
38 mins: Newcastle plead for a penalty again, and their claims are more credible this time. Santon again makes good progress down the left and his low cross sees Neville and Ameobi go for the ball at the same time. The Toon forward just about gets a toe on it first and is clattered, goes down a tad theatrically but is told to get up.
35 mins: Fine play from Santon down the left to outwit Naismith, leaving the Scotsman on his ar.., erm, derriere. He swings in a cross that Cisse or Anita really should have attacked, but neither of them do with any real conviction and the ball travels all the way through the six yard box and out for a goal kick.
32 mins: Fabulous chance for Pienaar! What a lovely move by Everton, culminating in a fabulous pass scythed through the eye of a needle by Baines. It sends the South African midfielder in on goal, with Santon right up his backside. Krul comes out to smother the shot well.
30 mins: Newcastle hit the post! From a free kick conceded by Naismith out on the left, it's floated in towards the far post by Cisse and Perch climbs above Pienaar, heads it down and against the upright. Everton just about scramble the rebound away.
28 mins: Half-hearted penalty appeal for Newcastle as Obertan tangles with Jageilka. It would have been incredibly soft.
27 mins: Newcastle have disappeared as an attacking force in the last 15 or so minutes. Everton have had 60% possession and look far more dangerous right now.
23 mins: Two good Everton chances in a minute. Neville's long ball finds its way to Naismith beyond the far post but his free header needed to have more 'oomph' to get past Krul. Seconds later, the ball comes in from the left for Fellaini but just as he looks set to smash past the keeper, Perch (I think) appears to make a vital block.
22 mins: All is calm. Everton work the ball from back to front very efficiently but Baines' uncharacteristic loose touch is pounced upon by Anita to break up the move.
19 mins: Perch gives the ball away sloppily on the edge of his own box and Jageilka ambles down the left flank. He pulls it back to Pienaar, but his cross is too 'flat' and Newcastle clear comfortably.
16 mins: The intensity of the first 10 minutes has begun to ebb away. Pienaar picks out Jagielka's run down the right with a lovely ball, but the England defender's first touch is heavy and he consequently overhits his cross rather wildly.
Max, Newcastle:"Geordies haven't had the winning spirit but tonight we are going to cream everton come on Newcastle."
13 mins: Howard authoritatively plucks a floated cross off the head of Ameobi. That's the first defensive 'thing' that Everton have done with any conviction.
10 mins: What a start we've had here. Newcastle fly away down the left again through Obertan, and his attempt to set up Ameobi for a tap-in is only foiled by a last-ditch sliding interception by Heitinga. Seconds later, Howard tips the ball around the post from an Ameobi header. What on earth is going on? Everton look so vulnerable in these early stages.
7 mins: Krul only just scrambles away the resulting corner, but the ball is fed back in aerially from the halfway line and causes panic at the back for the Magpies. Baines looks set to volley goalwards from close range but an unnecessary - and clumsy - touch by Jelavic takes the ball out of the full-back's stride. He still manages to get a strike in but Krul smothers. Goodness me, both sides are a shambles at the back!
6 mins: Thrilling save by Krul! Everton win a free kick over 25 yards out, right of centre. It's got Leighton Baines' name written all over it, and indeed it is he who clears the wall and arrows the ball towards the bottom corner, but Krul's fingertips divert it around the post at full stretch.
4 mins: That could easily have been two! Antoehr simple clearance down the left sees Marveaux escape Everton's wonky offside trap and scamper down the left. He rifles a low cross between defence and goalkeeper, but Cisse doesn't gamble on it, checking his run and thus missing out on a tap-in.
2 mins: WHAT A START FOR THE TOON! Shocking defending by Everton, who fail to keep a clean sheet for the 16th game in a row, but Papiss Cisse is very grateful indeed for this gift. Krul punts upfield, Distin and Heitinga both go for the same header, both miss it, and the ball bounces up nicely for Cisse to nod it over a stricken Howard and into the net. An assist for Krul, a shocker for the Toffees.
0 mins: A big ol' Tyneside roar, a loud peep from Martin Atkinson and we are under way at St James' with the hosts playing from left to right.
1955: "HNY-Mike: NUFC fans deserve better than watching their best players sold off.. Shame on the Ashley legacy." says Chris in Exeter. Griff in Battersea adds: "Jelevic due a goal, Toffees 2 or 3-1, we allways concede, COME ON EVERTON!"
1940:Welcome to our live coverage from St James' Park where news of Demba Ba's imminent departure to Chelsea may or may not rather flatten the atmosphere among the Geordie patrons.
Ba is the featured player on the January page of the official 2013 Newcastle club calendar, but Alan Pardew has confirmed in his pre-match interview that the deal is 'done'. The Senegalese international is replaced in the lone striker berth by Shola Ameobi tonight, with Papiss Cisse continuing with his right-sided role. James Perch returns at right-back witgh Mike Williamson returning from a ban.
Midfielder Marouane Fellaini returns from a three-match suspension for Everton, with Phil Neville also recalled. Scroll down for both line-ups.

Everton recovered from Papiss Cisse's early goal to come from behind and beat Newcastle United 2-1 at St James' Park.
Leighton Baines equalised with a stunning strike and substitute Victor Anichebe grabbed the winner to leave Newcastle deeper in trouble just outside the relegation zone.
With Demba Ba negotiating a move to Chelsea after an offer earlier in the day which triggered his release clause, Cisse took up the challenge of leading the Newcastle line and opened the scoring inside two minutes when he looped a header over Tim Howard after Everton had defended a long ball terribly.
Baines gave a glimpse of what was to come with a fabulous free-kick in the sixth minute which nearly drew Everton level, but on this occasion he was denied by an athletic one-handed save from Tim Krul.
Both sides carved out chances in an open first half, with Marouane Fellaini losing his balance when well placed to shoot inside the Magpies area and James Perch crashing a header against the post at the other end.
Newcastle had a confident penalty appeal turned down five minutes before the interval when Shola Ameobi thought he had been fouled by Phil Neville, but referee Martin Atkinson waved play on.
Everton equalised in sensational style in the 43rd minute as Baines stepped up to take a free-kick 30 yards from goal and beat Krul for power with a blistering piledriver that also swerved wickedly as it flew high into the net.
There continued to be nothing between the sides in the early stages of the second period, although Ameobi perhaps should have restored Newcastle's advantage when he poked wide after escaping from his defender.
The hosts were made to rue that miss on the hour mark as Anichebe made an instant impact barely a minute after coming on as a substitute, turning in Nikica Jelavic's cross from close range.
The onus was now on Newcastle to push forward and they did look vulnerable as they left spaces at the back, but Cisse almost made it 2-2 when his instinctive shot was well saved right on the goal-line by Howard after John Heitinga had blocked an initial header.
Krul had to back-pedal quickly to tip the ball over his crossbar after Mike Williamson had made a mess of trying to clear a Baines cross, while the Everton left-back curled another free-kick wide following a foul on Fellaini on the very edge of the box.
Newcastle piled on the pressure in the closing stages but Davide Santon's shot from a tight angle was kept out by Howard when he had the chance to square for an unmarked Cisse at the back post, and Everton held firm to seal victory and boost their European hopes.
