live commentary

90+5 mins: Panic in the City box as Hart fails to get a good fist on a corner... and that's FULL TIME! The gap at the top is nine points with City and United level on games, Liverpool stay seventh. SU-PERB game - penny for Mancini's thoughts on the touchline. Thanks for following our live commentary, a full report will follow...

90+4 mins: Agger does well to bring a ball down in the box and get a cross in but it's cleared just ahead of Suarez!

90+3 mins: City win a corner down the right, Kolarov booms it in over everyone though and out for a throw. What a waste.

90+1 mins: Sturridge is subbed for Allen and greets the boos with ironic applause to all sides of the ground. He's had a storming game.

90 mins: Five minutes added on at the Etihad in a frenzied finish!

89 mins: Downing picks out Sturridge 20 yards out and he getting bags of power on a toe-poke which Hart beats away!

88 mins: Great run by Aguero to win a corner for City on the far side, but Kolarov's delivery is poor and headed behind at the near post by Gerrard. His second stab is headed on and punched clear by Reina in a crowded six-yard box.

87 mins: Another change from Mancini and Nasri's sent on in place of Barry.

86 mins: Milner's cross from the left is cut out for a corner. Maicon meets it with a strong head from ten yards but it's planted over the bar!

85 mins: Johnson has a shy from distance but Hart waves it over his bar.

83 mins: Suarez squirms into space down the right and crosses, it's cleared to Gerrard, his blast from the edge of the box is blocked and City clear!

80 mins: What a finish we have on our hands. City fire a free-kick into the Liverpool wall 30 yards out, cries of handball, nothing doing. Liverpool break and Agger honks a woeful shot into the stands from 20 yards.

78 mins: STAGGERING EQUALISER BY AGUERO! He's sent scampering after a long ball down the right channel, Reina does his best Grobelaar impression and comes across to meet it even though Skrtel has the situation under control, Ageuro nicks it past them and lofts an unbelievable finish into the empty net from a tight angle! Reina's face is a picture.

77 mins: Gerrard whips in a free-kick from out on the left and Sturridge glances a header inches past the post! Think it took a nick of Skrtel on the way too.

75 mins: How many Man Utd fans cheered that Gerrard humdinger then? One sub apiece, Maicon on for Silva, while Skrtel replaces Enrique.

73 mins: WHAT A STRIKE BY GERRARD! A cross is cleared by City but only as far as Gerrard who takes it on his chest 30 yards out and rockets a stunning finsh past Hart just inside the left post! That was an absolute belter!

71 mins: Garcia's in the book for a trip on Suarez in midfield.

69 mins: Gerrard tries a couple of killer long passes on the deck but the first is cut out - just - and the second is too long for Suarez.

67 mins: Liverpool break down the left with City stretched at the back, but Henderson sends a ropey cross-field ball to Lucas which pushes him wide, then a poor cross from the Brazilian gifts the ball back to City.

66 mins: Promising run by Aguero but as he breaks into the Liverpool box he loses his balance and ends up in a heap under Agger. City quickly win the ball back though and Silva bids to play him in but Aguero's first touch lets him down.

Jason, Liverpool fan from Kent: "Makes me laugh if suarez or bale drive they get loads of stick dzecko does it and gets away with it"

63 mins: Suarez is picked out down the left of the box, controls at a stretch and cuts inside, bending an effort just past the far post!

61 mins: Aguero's down and needing treatment after a bit of a shoulder barge by Agger as the pair go for a high ball.

58 mins: City aren't happy as the Liverpool wall edges forward before blocking the free-kick.

57 mins: Carragher's booked for a brutal challenge, going through the back of Ageuro to get to the ball. Tommy Smith would be proud of that one!

56 mins: First sub of the gameis by Manicni, who sends Kolarov on in place of Nastasic.

55 mins: Sturridge is fed by Suarez and has a crack from 22 yards which knocks Nastasic into next week.

Jed, Kent: "I see it didn't take sturridge long to pick up Liverpool's cheats tag !!"

53 mins: Sturridge is booked for diving as the ball runs out of play in the box with Lescott on his heels. It's so blatant he even apologises for it, not that I'm giving him any credit for that.

51 mins: Liverpool have made a strong start to the half and win another corner on the far side, this one's headed clear though. Downing hooks it back in to Suarez at the far side of the box, his first-time cross finds Carragher... *rubs eyes* but it's put behind for another go just ahead of him. This one's also cleared, put back in and Downing flashes a header off target from ten yards.

50 mins: Liverpool win a free-kick 30 yards out which Suarez honks into the wall (which was never ten yards) and out for a corner, which comes to nothing.

48 mins: Milner crosses from out on the right touchline, it's over everyone and takes Reina a bit by surprise, bouncing a yard past the far post.

46 mins: City get the second half started playing right to left with no subs to report, which means Sturridge has come back out for Liverpool, and goes through an extensive series of stretches in the centre-circle before kick-off.

Ronnie's Dad, Bognor: "Little ron says 2 2,and hes never wrong"

Mick, Barnsley: "makes a change it,s not suarez cheating for liverpool.he,s learning the rest well tho. 2-2"

Mark Manc: "So dzecko goes down rolls around because liverpool had the ball then jumps up and runs to ref cryin, thats a dive in my eyes no worse then what suarez does rules need to be brought in to control that"

Ade: "Having to be a Liverpool supporting Man U fan for 2 hours. Hard times :-("

45+2 mins: Liverpool stroke the ball round and see out the time added on - Bredan Rodgers will be the happier boss at the break. Boos for ref Taylor as he walks off having let Liverpool play on after Dzeko was 'fouled' in the build-up to their equaliser by Sturridge. Dzeko himself had fired City ahead from close range six minutes earlier. Keep your thoughts on the game coming via the box on the right, and join me for the second half from 1705.

45 mins: Two minutes added on at the Etihad.

44 mins: So nearly a comedy own goal! Johnson fires a low ball into the box which Zabaleta bids to stroke back to Hart, but puts it to the side of his advancing keeper! Both are relieved to watch it dribble half a yard past the upright for a fruitless corner.

41 mins: Sturridge seems to be strugging with a thigh injury but it looks like the visitors are going to see if he can last until the break.

39 mins: The pace has settled to something more suitable for, y'know, passing to feet and that. It was threatening to boil over after Liverpool's goal but I think we'll get to HT with 11 v 11...

Gaz: "Man city bench got 100 mil on it. Bet Sinclair and Rodwell wished they hadn't gone there. They won't play much. mancini got too much money to spend"

37 mins: City win a corner down the right but it's curled over everyone by Silva and out of play on the far side.

Mark Manc: "Cant see liverpool winning because that would help united not saying its on purpose but they do have history of rolling over"

35 mins: Henderson's in the book for sliding in on Milner as he clears down the line. Spicy stuff now.

33 mins: Enrqiue curls a cross into the box but there's no red shirt within ten yards.

30 mins: Dzeko's booked for protesting to the linesman about the foul not being given in the build-up to the goal. There was *nothing* in it, Agger got the ball.

29 mins: CONTROVERSIAL LIVERPOOL LEVELLER! Dzeko gets brought down as Agger wins the ball in midfield off him but ref Taylor plays on, as do Liverpool. About a minute passes with the City fans booing before Sturridge is fed 20 yards out and he rockets a stunning low drive into the bottom right corrner! Mancini's blazing on the touchline. No celebration against his former side by the striker.

Sion YNWA! Wales: "Im dammed if we do and dammed if we dont!!dont want UTD to win prem but as a LFC fan neva want em to lose still got a chance for top 4 cmon new age SoS!!"

26 mins: Penalty shout for City! Milner tumbles in the box as he fights for the ball with Enrique but ref Taylor's having none of it.

23 mins: DZEKO FIRES CITY AHEAD! Neat work by City down the left from a throw-in sets Milner free, he squares along the edge of the six-yard box for Dzeko to bang home first time past Reina! That came out of nowhere!

21 mins: Suarez goes close! Sturridge turns his man on the right corner of the box and plays him in, the Uruguayan raking a low 20-yarder a few yards past the far post with Hart beaten!

Dave, L'pool: "most reds would like to lose today, such is there obsession with united.I hope the get they're wish.Silva first goal."

18 mins: Ref Taylor blows up after Dzeko controls a ball on the run in the box with his arm, before the striker lashes his shot wide in frustration.

16 mins: Suarez wriggles past Clichy down the right of the box and wins a corner. Agger gets up well to it but City block, Gerrard then gets a touch at the left post but there's no chance of squeezing it home at such a tight angle and it's out for a goalkick to City.

14 mins: Great chance for Sturridge! He gets on the end of a lofted ball by Johnson in the box, looks to shoot at the left post but it's blocked for a corner. It's the first of two quickfire ones for the Reds, but neither trouble Hart.

12 mins: Now it's Reina's turn to scramble and hack the danger clear. Not much class on display yet, bar Silva's first-minute rocket.

9 mins: Sturridge chases down a short backpass by Nastasic which forces Hart into a hurried hoof clear.

7 mins: Agger gives away a cheap corner after looking to intercept a Silva shot in the box when Reina had it covered. It's played short, then whipped in to Garcia who heads way over from 12 yards.

5 mins: Dzeko looks to play Aguero in down the left of the box but Johnson does to well to fend him off before winning the goalkick off the busy striker.

3 mins: Rapid-fire start by both sides with plenty of misplaced passes and a shank out of play by Hart. It'll settle down. I hope.

0 mins: Liverpool get us under way at the Etihad playing right to left in the first half in their usual red. City soon win the ball in midfield and push forward, Silva forcing Reina to tip over with a blinding strike from 25 yards! Corner comes to nowt.

Shane Hunt, Manchester: "Both teams are hit and miss at the moment. I think a one all draw looks likely."

Jay, Birmingham: "Cmon lpool lets do wot we done 2 arsenal but try 2 keep the lead this time. There without 2 of their best players yaya toure n kompany. Lets do the mancs!"

The Fox LFC: "Hi all i predicte the new age SAS To bag one a piece and win 2-1. Stevie g back to old self just need to keep midfield shape n we'l be ok"

JON80Y, Ramsgate: "LOL @ Mancini quote ' we can only stop Suarez if he stays in the dressing room' 3-2 liverpool."

1530: Afternoon all, and welcome to Orange's live commentary from the Etihad where second-placed City - ten points behind Man Utd - take on seventh-placed Liverpool. Team news, and Edin Dzeko and Matija Nastasic come in for Carlos Tevez and Samir Nasri as Roberto Mancini makes two changes from the side which drew with QPR. Liverpool make one change from the draw against Arsenal with Jose Enrique replacing Andre Wisdom, meaning new signing Philippe Coutinho isn't in the squad as he sorts out some personal issues in Italy. I'll bring you live commentary from 1600, but in the mean time use the box on the right to send in your predictions - I'm plumping for 2-1 with Tevez scoring first.

match report

A dreadful misjudgement by Liverpool goalkeeper Jose Reina earned Manchester City a point but the defending champions still lost ground in the title race in a 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium.

In an entertaining, seesaw contest a vintage Steven Gerrard strike looked set to win the game for Brendan Rodgers' visitors after former City player Daniel Sturridge had controversially equalised Edin Dzeko's opener.

But, with 12 minutes remaining, Reina, whose Liverpool career remains in doubt beyond the end of the season, then foolishly rushed from his goal to be beaten by Sergio Aguero and the Argentine superbly finished from an almost impossible angle.

It could be viewed as a point gained for City but Roberto Mancini's team are now still nine points behind derby rivals Manchester United at the top of the table with 13 matches remaining in the season.

Liverpool had the better of the early possession and, shortly before the quarter-of-an-hour mark, Pablo Zabaleta had to prevent Sturridge from scoring the opener after the striker had rounded goalkeeper Joe Hart from a long ball.

However, Rodgers' team paid the price in the 23rd minute for failing to make their opportunities count, as City did well to work the ball down the left for Dzeko to finish James Milner's low cross.

Liverpool's misery, though, was short-lived as Sturridge hit a lethal 20-yard equaliser, which left City furious the game had not been stopped for a foul or that the ball had not been put out of play due to Dzeko lying up field with an injury after a challenge by Daniel Agger.

It was up to referee Anthony Taylor's judgement whether to stop the game but City, who conceded a goal for the first time in 2013, were still unimpressed, with Dzeko booked for his protests while Sturridge decided not to celebrate against the club where he started his career.

The equaliser rattled City and they finished the first half in the nervy form they had started the game, with stand-in captain Zabaleta and Hart involved in a dreadful mix-up which resulted in the full-back almost scoring an own goal.

Liverpool made a dominant start after the break and thought they had a penalty when Sturridge went down under pressure from Joleon Lescott but the £12million January signing was booked for diving.

Roberto Mancini did not like what he was seeing and replaced Matija Nastasic with Aleksandar Kolarov in order to switch to a three-man defence of Gael Clichy, Lescott and Zabaleta.

City improved after the tactical change but Liverpool, inspired by the excellent movement and running of Sturridge, continued to create the best chances and Suarez wasted another when curling wide with his right foot.

With City struggling to create much threat on Jose Reina's goal, it was a surprise Carlos Tevez remained on the bench among Mancini's substitutes, which did not include Mario Balotelli after his January transfer move to AC Milan.

And the home team paid the price with just more than a quarter-of-an-hour remaining when Gerrard rolled back the years with a stunning chest control and 25-yard volley which left Hart with no chance.

But, in the 78th minute, Reina rashly charged off his line to the left-hand side of the penalty area in an attempt to win the ball only to be beaten for pace by Aguero, who skilfully curled the ball inside the far post to ensure a share of the points.
