|Real Madrid||v||Man Utd|
90+4 mins: That's full time! There's no time for the corner to be taken, which sees the United players surround the ref at the whistle. A fine game and a great result for United who head back to Old Trafford with that away goal. Jones and Rafael kept Ronaldo fairly quiet as the game wore on, Welbeck worked his socks off and De Gea excelled in his home city. Thanks for following Orange's live commentary and for all your texts - a full report will follow...
90+3 mins: So nearly a winner for United! RVP takes a ball down on his chest in the box and fires towards the far post, it's on target but Lopez tips it round for a corner!
90+2 mins: Superb work by Jones who has the shackles on Ronaldo - a block in the box and then a clearance as the goal machine tries to finish inside the six-yard box.
90 mins: Three minutes added on. Job done for United if they can see this out and go back to Old Trafford with an away goal.
89 mins: Carrick's caught in possession 30 yards out and is lucky to hear the whistle blow for a foul on him.
87 mins: Ramos is sent sprawling in theatrical agony, not for the first time, but I'll give him this one as he does take an elbow in the chops from Valencia. Yellow card for the sub.
85 mins: Yowzers. Ronaldo has a crack from 40 yards with a free-kick, does that up-and-downy thing and it just drops on the roof of the net with De Gea nothing more than an admirer.
84 mins: Third and final change by both sides, Pepe coming on for Alonso, before Anderson replaces Rooney.
82 mins: Great work by Giggs, tracking back to defend against Arbeloa.
80 mins: Great chance for Giggs to hit one first time in the box but he delays and his eventual shot's blocked! Giggs, Fergie and his team-mates all look to the sky in anguish.
78 mins: Real win a corner down the left which fails to beat the first man. Valencia appears to be held as he tries to break but the ref gives nothing. Real are straight back on the offensive and De Gea plucks a fierce Ozil shot out of the air and holds on! The keeper's having a fine game in his home city.
76 mins: Ozil's surrounded on the edge of the box but he manages a toe-poke on goal which De Gea's equal to.
75 mins: Another change for Real, Di Maria making way for Modric. Strange, he's arguably been their best player.
74 mins: Second change by United, Welbeck's worked tirelessly and has a touch of cramp so makes way for Valencia.
72 mins: United hit the woodwork! Van Persie sees a rocket from the right turned onto the bar by Lopez! It's soon back with him in a great position after Alonso makes a hash of playing offside, but Lopez gets a leg to his shot, it bounces up and is hacked off the line!
70 mins: Ronaldo goes close! Higuian pings in a low ball from the right which is cut out just ahead of Ronaldo for a corner. United defend it stoutly.
68 mins: Great change of pace by Di Maria to leave Rooney for dead down the left, he clips he ball back from the line and it's put behind for a corner. It comes to nothing though.
Garfield, Yeovil: "I am a die hard Liverpool fan but come on Madrid. anyone but Utd to score next"
65 mins: Bags of possession for Madrid but it's all looking a bit... predictable now.
63 mins: First change by Fergie sees Giggs sent on in place of Kagawa for his 150th European appearance.
61 mins: Bizarre but brilliant save by De Gea! Real break and Khedira crosses from the left, Coentrao meets it at the far post and stabs it goalwards, De Gea flinging out a leg to hoof clear off the line!
60 mins: Mourinho makes his first change and it's a straight swap up front, Benzema making way for Higuain.
58 mins: Ozil, Di Maria and Ronaldo combine to find a way through before Ozil over-runs the ball and stumbles with his own momentum in the box.
55 mins: Real are lucky to still have 11 men! Evra gets goal-side of last-man Varane on the run and tumbles after an awkward challenge - if the ref gave that as a foul it would have been a straight red, surely! As it is he just waves play on!
Gary B, Leeds: "I am a die hard leeds fan but come on utd van persie to score next"
54 mins: Another dig from Di Maria after controlling an awkward ball on the run, but it's wide.
53 mins: Di Maria has a crack from 25 yards, just off to the left, which bounces in front of De Gea. The keeper does well to hold on.
52 mins: Ronaldo's taken out by Jones on the run which has Mourinho spittting fire on the touchline. No booking though.
50 mins: Nifty work by Ronaldo to find space to shoot from 20 yards, but it's straight at De Gea.
48 mins: United win a corner down the left which Lopez changes his mind about coming for, Jones beats Di Maria to the ball but his header drops onto the roof of the net.
46 mins: United get the second half under way playing right to left with no subs to report. Mourinho's been sat on the Madrid bench on his tod for five minutes before restart. Succinct half-time chat, then.
45+3 mins: That's half time! A tale of two headers - Welbeck giving United a shock lead against the run of play after 20 minutes, before Ronaldo scored his gazillionty-hundredth goal of the season nine minutes later. United will be chuffed to go in level though, they were given the runaround for long periods. Keep your thoughts coming in via the box on the right, and join me for the second half from 2050.
45+2 mins: Ronaldo outjumps Evans with ease to get on the end of a cross but he can't keep his header down.
45 mins: Three minutes added on at the Bernabeu.
44 mins: After soaking up yet more pressure United break, Kagawa sets Evra free down the left, he clips in a cross towards Welbeck which Lopez puts behind for a corner. It's eventually worked to Kagawa but he balloons a hopeless effort way over the bar.
42 mins: Di Maria tumbles as he chases a ball in the box with Evans, but amid the loudest shout for a pen you'll ever hear the ref just tells him to get up. Play goes on and the ball's worked to Benzema, De Gea claiming bravely at his feet by the foot of the post.
38 mins: Rafael's in the book for hauling down Ozil just outside the left of the box. Not what you want with another 52 minutes of Ronaldo flying at you.
35 mins: Evans rakes a long free-kick cross-field but Rafael uses his hand to keep it in. Alonso takes the free-kick long to Ozil - brilliant ball - who gets a shot in past Evans which De Gea beats away at his near post for a corner... which comes to nothing.
32 mins: Welbeck denied! Van Persie crosses from the left, Welbeck throws a leg out and Lopez gets a glove on his poke for a corner! It's played to Kagawa, he feeds Rooney who goes through the legs and steers his effort just wide of the left post.
Nick, Bacup: "what a match! game on! im an everton fan, backing utd tonight, but loving watching real madrid go forward. wish ozil would come to goodison!"
29 mins: IT HAD TO BE HIM! RONALDO LEVELS! He gets on the end of a cross from the left, out-jumps Evra and plonks his header just inside the right post giving the flying De Gea no chance! Muted celebrations against his old side.
28 mins: Ronaldo blasts a 25-yard free-kick into the wall, and then steers his low follow-up past the left post.
27 mins: Ozil drives a corner in from the left but it's cleared. So far, so good for United - soak up the early pressure, hit them with a sucker punch and then sit back. Oh, and keep Ronaldo quiet.
24 mins: Hand ball against RVP - who's already on a yellow - as he bursts forward but the ref just settles for the free-kick.
22 mins: De Gea pushes a Di Maria long-ranger round the post for a fruitless corner. The home fans aren't about to get their white hankies out, but it's only the United fans that you can hear singing.
20 mins: WELBECK GIVES UNITED THE LEAD! The Red Devils win a corner down the left, Welbeck pulls off Ramos and steers his header into the far corner past Lopez from eight yards! What a sucker punch!
19 mins: Rafael sends Ronaldo tumbling by the corner flag with a nudge as they chase the ball. Nothing doing, says the German ref.
17 mins: Evans goes down in the box as he defends a free-kick - the replays show a sneaky elbow to the back of the head by Ramos after the ball's gone. Tsk.
Bry, Chelt: "rooney 1st goalscorer, 9/1 - £20 buying money!"
14 mins: Ronaldo wins a cheap corner off Evans down the right of the box. It's floated into the middle of the area but Ramos is back-pealling and can't get a header in.
12 mins: Rooney honks a long ball up towards Van Persie but it's cut out and cleared. United are seeing a little more of the ball now having weathered the early storm.
Marty, 2 Dogs: "Cant wait to see the look on Taggarts ribena face when ronaldo scores 3."
9 mins: Ronaldo has his first shy at goal, but it's a poor, drilled 25-yarder which is no danger for De Gea.
8 mins: It's all Real in an open game. Ramos heads over the bar from a free-kick to the back post.
6 mins: Coentrao hits the post! Ronaldo bends in a low ball round Rafael, Ferdinand cuts it out to Coentrao who curls a beautiful shot towards the far post from 18 yards, it's creeping in but De Gea gets fingertips on it to steer it onto the woodwork and away!
5 mins: Van Persie's first in the book and it's a soft one, the German ref flashing an early yellow for a hand on Sergio Ramos's chin as they go for a header.
4 mins: Di Maria finds space to have a crack from 25 yards but it rockets past the left post. Real have started with vigour, as expected.
3 mins: Van Persie looks to slip Kagawa in as he pushes up down the left but the flag's up for offside.
2 mins: First half-chance falls to Khedira, Benzema playing him in with a cute first-time ball but he drags his shot wide of the right post as Rafael slides in.
0 mins: Real get us under way playing right to left, United in their usual home kit. Your your predictions and thoughts coming via the box on the right, I'll weave the best ones in.
1941: George Frideric Handel's ditty Zadok the Priest is spine-tingling on nights like this. Even more so than the theme from the Rockford Files which we get to hear at Tranmere.
Mark, Norwich: "Kagawa starts, Cleverley on the bench?????"
1935: That worldwide audience of 200 million has ten minutes to put the kettle on or grab a beer from the fridge. Preferably the latter, we don't want a blackout.
Josh, Accrington: "Phil Jones should be up to the task, he performed the same role for Blackburn a few years back and kept Ronaldo quiet that day which cost United the title and encouraged Fergie to sign him up."
1924: The more montages I see of Ronaldo bursting forward and bulging the onion bag from 25 yards, the less I envy Phil Jones and Rafael tonight. And while you can't pity a man who plays for one of the best sides in the world, drives a Lamborghini and gets to kiss pretty ladies on the face, you have to feel for him not being labelled the best player in the world thanks to that Messi fella. He's my number one, anyway.
Milfred Ghadge, Pune, India: "An exciting game, im going for a madrid win 2-0 win., ronaldo and benzema"
1910: The Bernabeu is only half full at the mo but the din which greets the Real players as they canter out to warm up is impressive. As dimwitted clotheshorse Jamie Redknapp would say, the roof is literally going to come off at kick-off.
Dave, York:"Fergie meets his nemesis.Hopefully his nemesis will show him the way."
Mark, Poulton: "It's gonna be close......"
1845: Evening all, and welcome to Orange's live commentary on this last-16 clash of the titans at the Bernabeu. The teams are in - Phil Jones has the responsibility of 'doing a number' on Cristiano Ronaldo, while Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck all start. Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans are at the heart of the defence, with Nemanja Vidic not even in the squad. With one hour to go until kick-off, keep your fingers busy by using the box on the right to send in your predictions - I'm going for 2-0 to United with RVP first scorer at 175/1 - and anything else which tickles your fancy. The people below did just that, and are now basking in a warm Orangey glow of pre-match satisfaction.
Brian, Manchester:"Well, Phil Jones to mark Ronaldo!!! Not sure that's a winner. Be interesting to see how good he is."
John Crocker, Scarborough: "Ronaldo first and any number of goals for REAL. mr botox. Sorry. Fergie. has tried to make his usual advance excuses. but only half heartedly. think he is resigned to embarressing defeat again. only chance if his lady godivas get away with it."
Tom: "man u fan, hoping4 a good result! 2-2 van persie and rooney 4 united, ronaldo and higuain 4 madrid."
Craig, Leeds: "I've got £30 on man utd win don't know the score but just feel like the reds will win."

|Real Madrid||v||Man Utd|
Cristiano Ronaldo scored but Manchester United will be the happier after a 1-1 draw with Real Madrid in their Champions League last-16 first-leg tie at the Bernabeu on Wednesday evening.
Danny Welbeck opened the scoring and, although Ronaldo netted a first-half equaliser, that is how it stayed to set up a fascinating second leg.
Real began the brighter and there was a warning for Sir Alex Ferguson's side when David De Gea tipped a Fabio Coentrao effort onto the far post early on.
But it was United who opened the scoring on 20 minutes after Shinji Kagawa was a little fortunate to be awarded a corner following a challenge with Sergio Ramos.
Wayne Rooney swung the subsequent set-piece in from the left and Welbeck did well to pull back from the goal-line before nodding expertly past Diego Lopez.
That left the Bernabeu stunned but, just as the visitors were growing in confidence, there was a riposte from a familiar figure on the half-hour mark.
Angel Di Maria's delivery from the left was met by Ronaldo, who seemed to hang in the air before expertly heading past De Gea.
Real twice went close after the interval through Di Maria before Raphael Varane got the benefit of the doubt for a challenge on Patrice Evra when the United skipper looked to be clean through on goal.
Jose Mourinho's side continued to dominate the ball and De Gea saved well with his feet from Coentrao on the hour mark.
But United remained a threat on the break and Van Persie had a double chance to put his team in front only to see his first shot hit the woodwork and the second cleared off the line by Xabi Alonso.
Despite heavy pressure from the home side, it was Van Persie who forced the final chance of the game as his left-footed effort was saved well by Lopez in injury time.
