live commentary

Wigan demolished Everton 3-0 at Goodison Park to book their place in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley with three goals in four devastating first-half minutes.

Roberto Martinez's men stunned the home side as Maynor Figueroa, Callum McManaman and Jordi Gomez all found the net to end the Toffees' hopes of silverware this season and secure a first-ever semi-final place in the competition for the Latics.

The opening half-hour was an even affair with Sylvain Distain flashing a header wide and Nikica Jelavic forcing back-up Latics goalkeeper Joel Robles into a diving save, while Paul Scharner's superb tackle denied Leighton Baines.

Shaun Maloney curled a shot from the edge of the area against the inside of the post with Jan Mucha beaten, before the Everton goalkeeper had to be alert to push away a neat half-volley from James McCarthy from the edge of the area.

But from the resulting corner in the 30th minute, Wigan took the lead and never looked back, with Figueroa climbing above Leon Osman at the far post with relative ease to break the deadlock.

Everton were then complicit in their downfall as Phil Neville's horrendous pass only succeeded in releasing McManaman, with the boyhood Toffees fan bursting clear to beat Mucha with a composed finish.

And it was 3-0 moments later thanks to a sublime finish from Gomez, with the Spaniard curling a precision first-time effort from outside the box around two defenders and into the bottom corner of a static Mucha's net after Arouna Kone's astute pull-back.

Everton manager David Moyes made a change at the interval, sending on Victor Anichebe for Neville and the home side pressed forward in the second period as they searched for a route back into the contest.

Former Wigan man Baines fired a free-kick straight at Robles from long range in the 50th minute before the strangely subdued Marouane Fellaini powered a shot narrowly wide from just outside the penalty area.

Fellaini's poor pass in his own box then gifted a shooting chance to Figueroa, but the Wigan man failed to get any real power on his shot and Mucha was able to save comfortably, with the Belgium international replaced by Darron Gibson soon before heading straight down the tunnel.

The Latics suffered a blow in the 71st minute when unfortunate substitute Ryo Miyaichi, who had been sent on for the injured McManaman for his first appearance after a long-term absence of his own, was stretchered away with an ankle injury after a full-blooded challenge from Kevin Miralles.

Miralles had the ball in the net in the 75th minute, but the assistant referee's flag had long since been up for offside, substitute Ross Barkley drilled wide late on, before Osman forced a fine save from Robles in injury time and Seamus Coleman headed the follow-up wide to sum up Everton's day.

live commentary

90+4 mins: FULL TIME! Wigan are through to an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley - their first ever! A beaming Martinez shakes hands with a stony-faced Moyes, Keeper Joel collapses to his knees in joy. Wigan fans celebrate. What a performance! A full report will follow...

90+1 mins: Ugh. Osman draws a good stop out of Joel with a six-yard toe-poke, the ball loops to Coleman who has a free header at an open goal but puts it well wide! It's just not happening for the Blues today. At least the crowd aren't booing any more - most of them have left.

90 mins: There's four minutes to be added on at Goodison as Wigan make a change, Alcaraz making way for Golobart.

88 mins: Gibson's in the book for a foul on... not sure who! Suggestions on a postcard.

86 mins: Clash of knees between Gomez and Heitinga as they go for a 50-50 ball, both 'feel it' but are fine to carry on, albeit with grimaces.

84 mins: Anichebe crosses from the left, Alcaraz fails to cut it out in the middle of the box and it runs all the way to Barkley, his crack from the edge of the area bending just wide!

81 mins: Penalty shouts from the home fans but not the Everton players as Barkley appears to be bundled over by Figueroa, but ref Friend waves play on.

79 mins: Third sub for the Blues, Mirallas making way for youngster Barkley.

77 mins: The ever-mirthsome "Is there a fire drill?" song gets aired by the Wigan fans for the umpteenth time. Everton fail in their pursuit of a few long balls down the channels.

75 mins: Mirallas has the ball in the net after a run and shot in the box... but the flag's up for offside! No arguments, he was a good two yards off.

72 mins: Sub Miyaichi's having to be subbed, McArthur replacing him. Hopefully it's just a precaution.

Abhi, India: "Though I predicted a surprise win for Wigan earlier, even I am surprised at the way Toffees have surrendered in this match...!!!!"

70 mins: Mirallas gets to a loose ball first but sends Miyaichi into the ad boards holding his ankle - this coming after a long spell on the sidelines. Wigan are down to ten men while he has treatment.

67 mins: Second sub for the Toffees. Blimey, Fellaini's being subbed. He's not had the best of games but is booed off, being replaced by Gibson. Or maybe it's Moyes' decision to take him off which is being booed...

65 mins: Wigan win a corner down the left which is half-cleared to Figueroa, he has a tame pop from the edge of the box which is easy for Mucha.

62 mins: There's another break in play for a head injury, this time Figueroa needing the magic sponge after a clash of heads.

59 mins: Kone heads behind for a corner. Baines' outswinger is cleared as far as Osman, he feeds Distin but it's out for a goalkick. Everton are in a hurry to get themselves back in the game, but with that haste comes mistakes.

Chris, Exeter: "Wow! That has 2B the most surprising H/T score-ever!! Everton shd concentrate on ftball, not kicking Wigan off the park."

57 mins: Harsh yellow for Fellani for a trip on Maloney in midfield.

53 mins: Good running by Beausejour down the left to win a corner. Maloney's delivery from the left is poor though, cleared by first man Jelavic. There's nobody upfield though and Wigan can come straight back at them.

51 mins: Fellaini goes close! He hits a first-timer from 22 yards which goes a yard wide of the right post!

49 mins: Mirallas is hacked down by Maloney in full flight, the Wigan man being flashed a yellow.

46 mins: Everton are unsurprisingly making a change, Anichebe replacing Neville to add a bit of muscle up top. Maybe he can redecorate the dressing room during this half, seeing Moyes will have stripped all the paint off it.

Griff, Battersea: "Could see Moyes packing it in after this shambles, UNBELIEVABLE. Glad am not there now."

45+3 mins: BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. That'll be the half-time whistle then. Wigan have been magnificent and fully deserve their healthy lead - Latics fans will already be planning their day out at Wembley in the semis. Join me at 1350 to see if there's any way back for the stunned Toffees.

45 mins: Three minutes added on at Goodison, though I think the queues for refreshments have been huge since the 34th minute.

44 mins: Wigan win a free-kick 25 yards out, off to the left. Maloney bends it to the back stick and Mucha has to pull off a top-drawer tip-over! The corner's sent in by Gomez but Mirallas clears. 4-0 and this place would turn toxic.

41 mins: Osman joins fellow central midfielder Neville in the book for hacking down Gomez after Fellaini gives the ball away.

40 mins: McManaman's picked up an injury at the ground where he used to have a season ticket and has to limp off, being replaced by on-loan Gunner Miyaichi.

39 mins: Neville's in the book for a wreckless tackle on Figueroa down the line.

37 mins: Every mistake is being roundly booed by the Toffees fans. Couple of optimistic penalty shouts as Fellaini fails to escape from Alcaraz (sorry) but ref Friend's not interested.

34 mins: STAGGERING! IT'S THREE! Kone teases the Everton defence down the left, squares to GOMEZ who sweeps a sublime shot home from the edge of the area into the corner! Not heard boos like this at Goodison for many a year!

32 mins: THE LATICS DOUBLE THEIR LEAD! Neville tries to find Distin with a ball back but gifts it straight to MCMANAMAN, the boyhood Everton fan racing into the right of the box and clipping past Mucha! What a quickfire double! No wonder Martinez is beaming!

30 mins: WIGAN LEAD AT GOODISON! Mucha beats away a stunning drive by Maloney for a corner. It's sent in from the right and FIGUEROA rises highest in a crowded box to power a header into the bottom left corner of the net!

26 mins: Gomez looks to release Beausejour down the left but the ball zips off the wet turf and behind for a goalkick.

24 mins: Tough volley for Jelavic to keep down on the turn, which is hoofed way into the stand from the edge of the box.

22 mins: Coleman buys a cheap free-kick by the right corner flag which Baines hooks in to the back post, Boyce heading clear. Good game this!

20 mins: Good stop by Joel, turning a strike by Jelavic from the edge of the box away with a strong hand.

19 mins: Wigan go close again! Coleman's slip is capitalised on by Maloney who races down the left and whips a ball in for Kone which he heads just over the bar!

16 mins: Corner to the Latics on the left which Beausejour sends to the back stick, Alcaraz heading it back across goal and behind.

15 mins: Everton win a corner on the right which Baines sends deep, it's a little too high for Jelavic who doesn't help himself by leaping too early, the ball pinging straight up off his head on his way down and behind for a goalkick.

13 mins: Figueroa has an ambitious shy from out on the left which rockets waaaaaay over the bar. He then inspects the turf, just to let everyone know that it's the groundman's fault, not his.

11 mins: Wigan hit the woodwork! McMananman feeds Maloney down the left, he cuts inside and bends a stormer of a shot to the far post which Mucha can only stand and admire, before it comes back off the inside of the post, across the goal and away!

Abhi, India: "I feel with Howard's absence, there is a surprise on cards, 1-2 in favor of Wigan...!!!"

9 mins: It's a game short on chances so far as the they size each other up, both happy to stroke the ball round.

6 mins: Ouch. Scharner is poleaxed by a Mirallas shot which clocks him square in the chops. Ref Kevin Friend plays on, but then decides to blow up as it's a head injury. He's soon back on.

3 mins: Jelavic forces the first corner of the day in front of a roaring Gwladys Street. It's worked short before being swung in, Wigan are snoozing and Distin plants a hear just wide of the right post from eight yards!

1 min: An early ball's swung in towards Kone from the right but Mucha nips in ahead of Distin to claim.

0 mins: Who fancies a trip to Wem-ber-lee then? Wigan get us under way playing right to left in their black change strip.

Griff, Battersea: "Couldnt make it to HQ today, mother in-laws birthday. Dont blow this today Moyes, i dont mind losing to The Mancs in the Semis, but dont blow this chance. 3-1, Jelavic (finally) 1st goal. COME ON."

1208: Afternoon all, and welcome to Orange's live commentary on the FA Cup quarter-final at Goodison Park. Team news, and Jan Mucha continues between the sticks for the Toffees due to Tim Howard's back injury, while centre-back Phil Jagielka misses out after picking up an injury in the 3-1 win against Reading, so John Heitinga comes in at the back. Wigan make four changes to the side which was tonked 4-0 at home by Liverpool - regular FA Cup keeper Joel Robles replaces Ali Al Habsi, Jordi Gomez and Callum McManaman come into the starting XI and injury-plagued Antolin Alcaraz makes his first start since August. I'll bring you live updates from 1245, but in the mean time feel free to use the box on the right to send in your predictions, bets and any other guff whizzing round your noggin. I've got three bets on today - an accy (Villa and QPR wins, Norwich and WBA draws), Everton 2-0 and I'm having a dabble at this 'both teams to score' malarkey in the games involving Tranmere, Birmingham, Ross County, WBA and Palace. How about you?
