Marina and the Diamonds recorded a quick blog post after she played the Queen’s Head stage in William’s Field this afternoon.
She followed it up by playing a more intimate set in the Orange Chill ‘n’ Charge tent which went down well and even got some people up dancing. Most people were listening while they waited for their phones to charge but Carys Bell, 35, from Bath, was here just to see her perform.
She said: “I saw her earlier at the Queen?s Head and she announced she was playing here. Because we come in daily I charge my phone at home. My friend did see the queue here and thought it was too long but actually it moves really quickly. Marina and the Diamonds reminds me of Regina Spektor - a strong female vocalist, quite edgy. I’ve been coming to Glastonbury almost every year since I was 15 and it’s a really good place to discover new bands.”
The Orange Chill ‘n’ Charge tent is open to anyone who needs to charge their phone - not just Orange customers. The tent is open from 10am to 10pm and there is always music on - a mixture of live bands and an in-house DJ. Today’s line-up included VV Brown and the Maccabees as well as Marina and the Diamonds, Team Waterpolo, One Eskimo, Tommy Riley and Temper Trap and DJ-ing from the Dixon Bros.
Here’s what Holly and Heather thought of Marina and the Diamonds:
“With her theatrical delivery and strong distinct voice she reminded us of Kate Bush with a slight indie/alternative twist. She did a fab cover of ‘What you been waiting for’ by Gwen Stefani, making every line as individual as herself. The album hasn’t been released yet but going by the response from the crowd in the tent it will be a hit. We’ll definitely be buying it.”
