100 hours in a field

Back at camp taking in some Madness. Call me controversial but can we can the flags? After The Quo at lunchtime spent time wandering the green fields. Yesterday Kasabian rocked the crowd proper. We then partied with Jarvis before we managed to have one dance in the dark with Bruce. My mate even managed to meet The Boss when he dropped in the Peel tent. Tonight i feel is going to end in a blur. Come on!

Just been to see Enter Shikari on the Other Stage. Crazy set but special. Here’s the quick review:

Then we got ourselves over to the Pyramid Stage in time for Tom Jones. Just starting now …

What an outstanding set. Bruce Springsteen treated the massive Pyramid Stage crowd to a two-and-a-half-hour show that was just superb. Actually awesome.

The Boss opened his set with a surprise choice - Coma Girl - one of the last songs by the late, great Joe Strummer, a hero of Springsteen’s and a Glastonbury regular, and ended it with Dancing in the Dark, which continued to ring out across the festival site as the thousands in the crowd sang as they headed off to the campsites and other nocturnal pursuits. Here’s Ben and Natalie’s reaction:

Pendulum have the Other Stage crowd totally hyped up and dancing with their mixture of metal and drum ‘n’ bass. Lead singer Rob Swire called it a “killer crowd” and said: “This is the best festival in the world.” Oliver’s there:

Kasabian worked the huge pre-Springsteen Pyramid Stage crowd into a singalong frenzy that risked leaving everyone exhausted before The Boss turned up. Nick watched their storming not-a-ballad-in-sight set with Jordan Lynn and Karl Reece and sent over a quick video review before finding a prime spot to watch the big Glastonbury headliner.

We bumped into Diane, Judith and Cindy after Maximo Park’s brilliant performance on the Other Stage tonight. They thought it was a really athletic performance and I agree! We got a trademark mid-air karate kick splits from lead singer Paul Smith - he apparently has his trousers specially made with a reinforced crotch just for those occasions.

Jamie Cullum’s just finished his set on the Jazz World Stage and here’s his video blog post. The surprise highlight was his tribute to Michael Jackson - a jazz version of Thriller, so freshly conceived that he relied on a piece of paper for the lyrics.

He told the crowd: “About three hours ago I was on stage with Spinal Tap - probably the defining moment of my existence, sharing a stage with Derrick Smalls!”

Our competition-winning bloggers Oliver and Nick have struck gold down at the John Peel stage where they’ve gone to see Gaslight Anthem. Bruce Springsteen has just come on to join them!

Jamie Cullum has sent us his own behind-the-scenes video blog posts for 100 Hours In A Field. Here he is just before and after his surprise appearance on the Pyramid Stage with Spinal Tap. He came on to play keyboards in a jam of Short And Sweet. Jarvis Cocker also joined the parody heavy metal band on stage, playing bass on Big Bottom.
