What is it with Kanye West? Is the US rapper/"singer" on a one-man mission to sprinkle credibility on the squarest of British talents? First of all, there was his generous patronage of jazz-funkster Mr Hudson, a man so bound for the dumper after his debut album he was living in a wheelie bin until Kanye dragged him in to guest on 'Paranoid' on his 2008 album 808s And Heartbreak.
And now? Now Mr West is working with Keane. Keane! A band so unfashionable they're thinking of taking a nu-rave direction for their next album. Probably. Anyway, what's true is Kanye and Keane did some recording together recently, and have pencilled in some more sessions.
"We worked with Kanye for one night," Keane's Tom Chaplin gushed incredulously to NME. "But we're hoping to get some more stuff done with him in the next few weeks. He's obviously a very busy man, but we should have something really, really great to show for it hopefully later this year."
Whatever next for this great saviour of Brit mediocrity? A blaze of killer collabs with everyone on the Mercury Prize shortlist? Actually, we think he could do a marvellous job with Glaswegian melodramatists Glasvegas. Wouldn't it be great if Kanye could Auto-Tune himself a Scots accent? "How cud youse be so hearrtless..."
