As the timings of sackings go, that of Harald Schumacher proved something of a classic. The former German goalkeeper was overseeing Fortuna Cologne's match against Waldhof Mannheim. With his side losing 2-0 at half-time, he sat down to plot their turnaround but club president Jean Loering had other ideas. Loering said: "I asked him not to come back for the second half. I wanted him to leave the stadium immediately. I had hesitated from firing him for quite a long time but I had to do it then."
