A former on-course bookmaker and Gold Cup winner with Synchronised, JP McManus has gone on to become one of Ireland's richest men. His first big break came when he won £250,000 at the age of 31 on a single bet on Mister Donovan on the SunAlliance Hurdle at Cheltenham. But he made headlines in March 2006 following years of gambling jousting with famous Scottish bookmaker "Fearless" Freddie Williams when he took £1m off him in one day at Cheltenham.
