
The aforementioned late owl isn't the first bird to come a cropper on the field of play. South Africa's Jacques Rudolph has pigeon blood on his hands after accidentally killing a bird while fielding for Yorkshire in a Twenty20 match against rivals Lancashire in 2009. Rudolph launched the ball from just inside the boundary rope towards his wicket keeper but it struck a poor pigeon which had been hovering about 40ft from the ground.
