One of the earliest animal invasions on record involved England striker Jimmy Greaves during the 1962 World Cup. During the quarter-final against Brazil, a dog entered proceedings and Greaves promptly had it removed although it left it's mark by weeing on the player. The apocryphal tale goes that Brazilian player Garrincha found it so amusing he took ownership of the dog after the final whistle.
